Lives and works in Beirut

Akram Zaatari creates videos, installations of photographic material, and books on variety of intersecting themes. The experience of excavation, political resistance, and the transmission of pictures during war time form a key anchor in his creative practice. The formal, intellectual, and institutional architecture of Beirut’s contemporary art scene has been greatly influenced by Zaatari, who was a pivotal figure in the founding of the Arab Image Foundation (AIF).
