Anwar Jalal Shemza was an artist, writer and teacher. He gained recognition in Pakistan for his lyrical figurative works and was a founding member of the Lahore Art Circle. In 1956, he moved to London where he studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and began to place geometric and calligraphic forms from Islamic art in dialogue with elements and philosophies drawn from abstract art movements in Europe.
