Lives and works between London and Mauritius
Shiraz Bayjoo addresses social, political and historical concerns essential to Mauritian cultural identity and the larger Indian Ocean region through his multidisciplinary work encompassing video, paintings, photography and sculpture. His practice examines collective identity, nationhood, migration and the legacy of European colonisation through historical artefacts taken from private and public collections.
